A
tricky and varied Icho Cruz – Carlos Paz
run, complete with big crests and huge watersplashes,
served as Day Two's final gravel challenge before the
Rally Argentina competitors head for today's Cordoba
Stadium super special stage.
The Citroen World Rally Team marked a one-two victory
on this run with Sebastien Loeb reaching the finish
line in 6:26.6, only 1.5 seconds quicker than Dani
Sordo.
"We are very pleased
with what we are doing," Loeb
said.
The five-time champion is enjoying a comfortable
lead now that Mikko Hirvonen has retired for the day: "We
are taking it easy, trying to take no risks. We are
ready for tomorrow."
Jari-Matti Latvala was third-quickest for the Ford
team, close to the Citroen duo. He was followed by
Henning Solberg's Stobart Ford only six tenths of a
second away.
Federico Villagra brought his Munchi's Ford machine
into fifth place as he continued to defend his overall
sixth position from his closest rival: "I
have to concentrate and continue fighting against Wilson."
Matthew Wilson was next in line but conceded 2.8 seconds
to Villagra. "The road was as I expected," said the
Stobart driver: "Rough
with stones."
Petter Solberg had a moment at the beginning of this
stage, sending his PSWRT Citroen Xsara into a spin
but recovering without any real damage.
The time lost
with the mishap only allowed him to reach seventh place: "That's
why we didn't do a good job."
In a repeat of the previous stage's results, the top
ten for this run was completed with the Barwa Rally
Team Subaru handled by Nasser Al-Attiyah, Juan Marchetto's
Villagra Racing Mitsubishi, and the Baraterro Subaru
driven by Nicolas Fuchs.
On the leaderboard, Sebastien Loeb's overall advantage
on Dani Sordo has increased slightly to 58.7 seconds;
Sordo in turn counts a 40.3-second lead on third-placed
Jari-Matti Latvala. Petter Solberg stands exactly one
minute behind the Finn, 44.5 seconds ahead of his brother,
Henning Solberg.
The upcoming super special spectacular at the Cordoba
Stadium, where thousands of rally fans await, is the
next destination. |
